This week’s website will follow the geek theme of last week.  The website is Think Geek which has everything you could want to buy that’s geeky!  Their slogan is “Stuff for Smart Masses.”  They have everything from useful gadgets, to bizarre items, to completely wacky and useless – but absolutely needed – items!

Some of the items that I have from them and love include:

They have a little bit of everything – I can spend hours looking through what they have.  Also, if you ever need or want to buy me something – feel free to check out my wish-list!

This week’s website is one of the many websites that I use to satisfy my never ending thirst for all knowledge geeky/nerdy!  It’s Slashdot.  As Slashdot itself says it is “News for nerds. Stuff that matters.”  It’s a website that allows users to submit news stories related to a variety of tech and then users can comment on them.  It is such a popular website that having a story posted on it can cause the Slashdot Effect (or more commonly known on slashdotting)  This happens when a hot story is posted that causes people to click through to the website the story, pictures, etc. is on and the server can’t handle the mass influx of traffic and the website goes down.

Slashdot breaks down the news stories by category so that if you are only interested in certain topics you can view the topics of interest to you.

So if you are looking for a way to keep up some the “News for nerds.” check out Slashdot.  (Keep in mind if you visit it today, April 1, of what day it is – so don’t believe everything you read for today’s stories.)

Keeping with the theme of humor – this week’s website is Jumbo Joke.  This website has a vast collection of jokes about all subjects with new ones being added every few days.  The search for the archive of jokes is a bit hidden on the lower right hand side, but with the search you can look for jokes about your favorite category.  Not much else to say about it – but check it out if you aren’t getting enough laughs from last week’s website!

You’ve heard that the customer is always right – right?  Well today’s website shows that is only the case if the customer actually has a clue and is not wacko!  Not Always Right is a website where people in the retail or service business share their stories of customers that show that the customer is not always right.  The stories are so crazy and funny – they just have to be true because no one in their right mind could make this stuff up.  There are 5 or 6 new stories a day – and provide a nice chuckle or laugh for the day.  So – check it out and get ready to smile and laugh – or commiserate if you’ve had similar stories happen to you!

This week’s website is Common Craft.  I got the idea for this website from another website – which will come up on a later Wednesday.

The Common Craft website has videos that explain tech/web concepts and information in a way to help the non-techy people understand what the concepts are. Or as their tagline states “Explanations in plain English.” Items like Twitter, RSS Feeds, Social Networking, Wikis, etc. are covered.  So next time you hear some new fangled technology or web concept and not sure what it is all about – check out Common Craft and see if they have a video explaining it!
